Often people talk of having intuition or listening to their "gut." But I am pretty sure our "guts" don't talk. So, what is that thing that people call a "gut" feeling?
Last week, after experiencing an amazing treasure hunt (see previous post), I was ready for more divine appointments! The same evening as the Treasure Hunt, Matt and I decided to go out for ice cream. I don't really eat a lot of ice cream and almost never go "out" for ice cream, its just cheaper to buy a gallon from the store and Matt doesn't eat sweets, but we both felt like ice cream. So off we went. Of course we went to the closest store but as soon as we walked in my "gut" or intuition or whatever you call it said we should go to a different shop, a shop I had been to before but one about 20 minutes from the house. I looked at Matt and he agreed. So off we went again.
Well, the previous time I had been to this particular ice cream parlor I had met a guy who worked there who had been on my heart ever since. I felt an urge to talk to him but was not sure why or what I was to talk to him about. I had been praying for him and seeking God as to why this guy was on my mind. Now, when Matt and I decided to head to the ice cream parlor in question this guy was not on my mind at all, in fact I hadn't even thought about him until we walked in and there he was! Well, that's not that surprising since he did work there, but what came next sure was.
Matt's shirt had a lamb on it and said "do not conform" or something to that affect. The ice cream paorlor man asked if that was in reference to the Bible verse "Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world....." Matt said yes and we all began to talk. Low and behold.... he has only been a Christian 2 years and does not come from a believing family. He is an artist and has been trying to figure out how to meld his creativity and art into his faith. Well, it just so happens I help out with what I call "Art Church" which everyone else calls "Convergence, a Creative Community of Faith." It is a missional church designed to help artists and other embrace their creative giftings and us them for the kingdom of God!
Well, Matt and I wanted to pray for ice cream parlor man, whose name we discovered is James, but more customers kept coming in so we sat down ate our ice cream and were plannign on asking him when it slowed down a bit if we could pray for him, but to our surprise and pure joy James came and sat down at our table and asked to pray for us!!!! GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!
Needless to say, I now know why God had laid James on my heart. And that intuition or "gut" feeling that told me to skip the other ice cream place and go to the one James worked at, yeah I know it was God. I pray you too have an experience where God revelas to you that that intuition or gut feeling or whatever you call it, is really God tlaking to you. So be sure to listen up!
